Vincas DILKA

Born in the village of Baibokai in the Panevėžys district in 1912, he died in Vilnius in 1997. He left Kaunas Art School in 1937, and afterwards took an internship at the Royal Academy of Art in Rome. From 1939, Dilka participated in exhibitions in Lithuania and Russia. He was a professor of painting at higher art schools in Kaunas and Vilnius from 1940. He worked mostly in the field of painting, gaining fame for his 1950 picture Kolūkio steigiamasis susirinkimas (Meeting to Establish a Collective Farm), which embodied the principles of social realism. He began to illustrate children’s books in the early postwar years.
