Creative Studio “You Can Create A Book"

The creative studio “You Can Create a Book” heralds the activities of the Bookland at the International Bologna Children’s Book Fair and kindly invites you to take part in them!

Ever since its first appearance at the Vilnius International Book Fair in 2001, the creative travelling studio “You Can Create a Book” has already toured Lithuanian towns and villages, and entertained children at the Turin International Book Fair (2007). It is now heading for Bologna.

Kęstutis Kasparavičius, Vilnius Book Fair

Meetings with Lithuanian book artists will take place from 9.30 to 19.00 on Thursday 31 March at the Sala Borsa (Sala Burattini) library. Anyone who would like to can make the acquaintance of the artist Stasys Eidrigevičius, try inventing an illustration for the town of flying books with the creator of children’s books Kęstutis Kasparavičius, colour in a wooden letter with the artist Marius Jonutis, create books of faces and moods and bind them using a Japanese bookbinding technique with the artists Romas Orantas, Agnes Indre, Jurga Šarmavičiūtė and Sigutė Chlebinskaitė, and even grow a little animal from a coloured stain with Sigutė Ach and Lina Dūdaitė. There is much more, too.

There will be a unique opportunity to watch the process of printing an illustration by Algirdas Steponavičias (1927–1996), a master of the art of book illustration, and to try colouring it. An original, 50-year-old zinc engraving plate made by him for Kostas Kubilinskas’ book Varlė Karalienė (The Frog Queen) will also be shown at the event.

Come along, fill in a Bookland citizen card, and take part in the one-day educational-creative programme “You Can Create a Book”. And remember to ask the illustrators to sign their books for you!
